The dance industry is home to tens of thousands of dancers spread out all over the world; it takes long hours of dedication and passion to make a mark or a name for oneself. However, in my few years of covering the dance industry, there have been several dancers who have stuck out. I recently had the opportunity to interview and sit down to talk with contemporary dancer Juliette Irons, a small town Canadian dancer who has already made a mark on the LA dance industry.
When speaking to some of my colleagues, everyone seems to agree that Juliette Irons has a special quality to her dancing. No one can…
It was announced today on SYTYCD that Alex Wong has indeed reinjured himself, rupturing his opposite Achilles tendon.
The injury occurred at the Step Up 4 auditions Saturday evening while Alex was apparently performing the same jumps in seconde that injured him the first time in his Bollywood number last season.
Alex received the same surgery the following day at the USC Keck Medical Center.
The new incident follows one year and three days after his first Achilles injury.
Alex was called to be an all-star for season eight of SYTYCD, but will now once again be plagued with a year long recovery.

Now I’m not starting drama or anything, but this happened on Twitter not too long ago and thought the rest of people who aren’t on Twitter should know what’s up. I’m not instigating or fueling the fire in this debate, but I think Neil Haskell has valid points and Dominic Sandoval has valid points. I’m simply making putting the debate out there for OMG Dance readers to decide!
D-Trix tweeted that the D-Day Twins (Deon and Damon) who auditioned in Atlanta, GA stole the choreography from the Les Twins.
Here’s a video of the Les Twins performing it at World of Dance 2010.

American Ballet Theatre dancer Sarah Lane speaks out on ABC’s 20/20 about her role as Natalie Portman’s dance double in Black Swan. She discusses though she did not do the movie for fame, she feels that a lack of credit was given to her in regards to Natalie’s success. An interesting video, watch it!
Here is SYTYCD7′s Lauren Froderman being interviewed at the Gatorade G Series Fit launch party on Tuesday, April 12th. She talks about what it means to be representing dance for Gatorade, among other things.
The first musical performance was Toby Keith performing “Should’ve Been a Cowboy”. Dancing was Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Lacey Schwimmer and the DWTS Troupe: Oksana Dmyrenko, Kiki Nyemchek, Tristan MacManus, Peta Murgatroyd, Nicole Volynets and Ted Volynets. To see Maks and Lacey prove that even the pros can mess up sometimes watch (1:00).
In order to fill time on the hour long results show, DWTS has some pretty cheesy video clips…but this one was actually pretty funny. To see Chelsie Hightower’s bra (I think???) fall off mid-rehearsal, Maksim Chmerkovskiy call himself sex on a stick and other funny behind the scenes clips watch this video!
The Macy’s Stars of Dance this week was choreographed…
Here’s the full pilot episode of Ryan Seacrest’s new show featuring Laurieann Gibson‘s The Dance Scene.
In my opinion, the show is kind of like MTV’s short-lived Dancelife, only much better. I must give props to Ryan Seacrest, as he really knows how to produce reality television, also producing hits Keeping Up with the Kardashians and its spin offs. The Dance Scene has its humorous moments, for example, sending SYTYCD alumni Kherington Payne out weave shopping, but more importantly there aren’t any stupid solos busted out of nowhere, at least not yet. (Remember those awful random over-produced solos from Dancelife?)
I kind of wish however that the show wasn’t entirely…
If you’ve been itching for SYTYCD to return, here’s a video to keep you excited. Hector Toro of KIISFM radio visited the Los Angeles auditions, interviewing Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy, Tyce Diorio, Jeanine Mason, Cat Deeley, and Jonathan “Legacy” Perez. Over the course of these 8 minutes, you will witness new talent, familiar faces, Mary’s famous laugh, some crazy shoes, and a hint at a surprise with purple tights? Get pumped for the new season, premiering May 26th 8/7c for two hours!

Here’s Kent Boyd and Lauren Froderman teaching some basic dance moves for prom-goers, including the “Step Touch”, “The Dip”, “The Lean” and the most important: “The Slow Dance.” The video is super cute and shows what great chemistry the two dancers have with each other. Enjoy!
