The dance industry is home to tens of thousands of dancers spread out all over the world; it takes long hours of dedication and passion to make a mark or a name for oneself. However, in my few years of covering the dance industry, there have been several dancers who have stuck out. Tabitha and Napoleon D’umo and Discount Dance Supply teamed up to create a short film about the creative process of choreographing a dance sequence. They also released a quick interview where Tabitha and Napoleon discuss the role of dancers & choreographers over time, where they see dance in contemporary culture in the future and the role shows like SYTYCD have had on the dance community. American Ballet Theatre dancer Sarah Lane speaks out on ABC’s 20/20 about her role as Natalie Portman’s dance double in Black Swan. She discusses though she did not do the movie for fame, she feels that a lack of credit was given to her in regards to Natalie’s success. An interesting video, watch it!
Here is SYTYCD7′s Lauren Froderman being interviewed at the Gatorade G Series Fit launch party on Tuesday, April 12th. She talks about what it means to be representing dance for Gatorade, among other things.
The first musical performance was Toby Keith performing “Should’ve Been a Cowboy”. Dancing was Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Lacey Schwimmer and the DWTS Troupe: Oksana Dmyrenko, Kiki Nyemchek, Tristan MacManus, Peta Murgatroyd, Nicole Volynets and Ted Volynets. To see Maks and Lacey prove that even the pros can mess up sometimes watch (1:00).
In order to fill time on the hour long results show, DWTS has some pretty cheesy video clips…but this one was actually pretty funny. To see Chelsie Hightower’s bra (I think???) fall off mid-rehearsal, Maksim Chmerkovskiy call himself sex on a stick and other funny behind the scenes clips watch this video!
