So You Think You Can Dance

The Broadway cast of the upcoming musical Newsies has officially been announced and among the talented cast will be 4 So You Think You Can Dance alumns.   The 4 dancers are: Evan Kasprzak (SYTYCD5), Thayne Jasperson (SYTYCD4), Jess LeProtto (SYTYCD8) and Alex Wong (SYTYCD7).

Though while on SYTYCD both Evan and Jess were considered Broadway style dancers, this show will be the Broadway debut for Thayne, Alex and Evan.  However,  Evan was part of the Newsies cast in their run out of town at the Paper Mill Playhouse in New Jersey.  The show is set to begin previews March 15th with an opening date of March 29th.  Newsies will…

This is probably the first dance video I’ve seen that makes this silly song look so good. Here’s a clip from Kyle Hanagami and Ian Eastwood’s class – also featuring Chachi Gonzales, Brandon Dumlao, and more. All of them are such sick dancers; I watched this several times so I could watch each dancer individually. Crazy!

Season 8 winner, Melanie Moore, was recently on Ellen. She joined a few audience members, along with Ellen herself, to play Just Dance 3. Watch the video to see who ended up scoring the most points!

SYTYCD alumni, Travis Wall & Nick Lazzarini, along with roommates Teddy Forance & Kyle Robinson will star in a new docuseries on Oxygen. It was announced today the show, “All The Right Moves”, will be developed by the network along with 2 other programs.

Evan Kasprzak (SYTYCD5) and Ryan Steele were recently in the production of Newsies at the Papermill Playhouse which will be transferring to Broadway in March 2012.  The cast of Newsies performed in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade this year.

Set in New York City at the turn of the century, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teenaged ‘newsies,’ who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. But when publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies…

The night began with a group performance featuring the stars, pros and troupe members from this season.

Lady Antebellum performed while Kym Johnson, Dmitry Chaplin, Peta Murgatroyd and Val Chmerkovskiy danced.

Each of the 3 contestants were told to pick one of their previous dances and dance again trying to improve their score.  Ricki Lake and Derek Hough chose to redance their tango from movie week.

Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke chose to redance their foxtrot dedicated to Rob’s father.

J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff redanced their jive.

It was then announced that the couple in third place was Ricki Lake and Derek Hough.

Melanie Moore, winner of SYTYCD8, has joined JUMP Dance Convention’s tour as a guest teacher and demonstrator. Here she is performing a new solo to Sleeping At Last’s “Turning Page” at the convention’s tour stop in Greenville. Beautiful as always!

This week’s episode of Glee featured Jaimie Goodwin (SYTYCD3) during their mashup of Adele songs.   *EDIT: Comfort Fedoke (SYTYCD4) is also featured.*

The music guest this week was Cobra Starship.  Dancing was Kym Johnson, Tristan MacManus, Sharna Burgess and Sonny Pederson.

This week the Macy’s Stars of Dance performance was the design a dance fan performance.  Derek Hough and Anna Trebunskaya danced a paso doble.

The Spotlight performance this week featured Kyle Scanlan, David Guzman, Jacob Guzman, Matt Gilmore, Chelsie Hightower, Lacey Schwimmer, Sharna Burgess and Peta Murgatroyd.

It was then announced that Hope and Maksim had been eliminated.
